More photos/words at Skrillex’s NestHQ. Dog Blood = Skrillex + Boys Noize. This happened because of Skrillex. He’s such a genuinely nice person and I can’t thank him enough for the opportunity. We met at SXSW 2012 during Biz3’s showcase and I was starstruck. I’ve met tons of interesting people, but this really got to me. At the time he was battling a lot of negative press and had just won his first Grammy for Best Dance/Electronica Album. Publications were making fun of his haircut and trashing dubstep. I was doing a piece for MTV Hive and he asked us to say something nice. All of the negative press bothered him because he’s such a positive dude.
In July 2013 Dillon Francis was playing at Highline Ballroom and I went to say hi. After the show Skrillex, Boys Noize, and Dillon were backstage. They were in NYC because of Camp Bisco. I showed them a portrait I took of Boys Noize a while ago, Dillon told them about our tour in Europe, and we exchanged emails. I thought there’s no way he’s going to write me back, and that he gave me his email to be polite. Sure enough, he responded. His photographer was with Steve Aoki during Electric Zoo, and we were able to make it happen.
